Nearly 3,500 insect scientists will swarm to the Austin Convention Center from Nov. 10-13, 2013 for the 61st Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America



Nearly 3,500 insect scientists will swarm to the Austin Convention Center from November 10-13, 2013 for the 61st Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America.


Members of the media who would like to attend can contact ESA for a complimentary press pass by writing to rlevine@entsoc.org or by calling 301-731-4535, ext 3009.


Topics covered during the meeting will include bed bugs, honey bees, Colony Collapse Disorder, fire ants, genetically modified crops (GMOs), pest management, mosquitoes, insecticide resistance, forensic entomology, insect-borne diseases, insect evolution, arthropod repellents, invasive species, stink bugs, ticks, and more.

In addition to the scientific presentations, the meeting will also feature a hall with more than 50 exhibitors, social events, student debates and contests, the Linnaean Games, and more.


Members of the media are also invited to attend the Austin Insect Rodeo Expo at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Hundreds of children are expected to attend this free educational event, along with dozens of volunteer entomologists.
